The Cable Car is Tromsø’s most popular tourist destination. It runs from the mainland (Tromsdalen) up to the mountain ledge Storsteinen. The lower station is located 50 m above sea level, while the upper station, Fjellstua, is situated at an altitude of 421 m above sea level. The trip up takes just four minutes.

From the large outdoor terrace, you can enjoy the spectacular panoramic view of Tromsø and the virtually endless sight of islands, fjords, mountains and the open sea. If you look in the other direction, you will see the majestic mountain Tromsdalstinden, which towers 1,238 m above sea level. In summer, the panorama deck at the upper station provides excellent opportunities of seeing the Midnight Sun, while in winter it’s an ideal place for hunting the magical Northern Lights.

This trip will be with at English-speaking guide and will start outside Clarion Hotel The Edge at 10.00.

Be familiar with the history of Sommarøy, 1 hour bus tour from Tromsø. The bus will leave outside Scandic Ishavshotel Saturday at 10.00. The bus returns at 14.00.

For those who wants to learn more about this local community, we highly recommend the guided walking tour.

Stops of this walk include the local museum, king’s park, handicraft society, art studio, church and of course the legendary Kaillkråa. As it is mostly the women who do all the grocery shopping, the men are left in the Kaillkråa, where they each have a hook with their name above on which their coffee cups hang!

If you like, we can also walk down to the quayside and see life unfolding at this vibrant fishing village. The tour, which lasts around 1 hour, is designed to give guests an insight into our local community.
